AWEMAC provides expertise in Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) advisory services to clients to ensure the safety of a workplace as well as that of the surrounding community. The firm utilizes guidelines set out in the Occupational Safety and Health Act, 2007 as well as those provided by the World Bank International Finance Cooperation (IFC), African Development Bank (AfDB), World Health Organization (WHO) and other relevant agencies to ensure EHS compliance.
Proposed and on-going projects should be subjected to the relevant regulatory frameworks as per the Kenyan laws. The laws are overseen, coordinated and enforced by the relevant government institutions/lead agencies. The agencies include Kenya Forest Service (KFS) – for forest related projects, Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) – for wildlife related projects, National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) – for all projects listed in Schedule II of EMCA CAP 387, Directorate of Occupational Safety and Health Services (DOSHS) – for all labour laws implementation, Water Resources Authority (WRA) – for all water abstraction and use projects, among others.
